A long, fairly non-eventful race is always made so much more enjoyable with the plethora of funny tweets that get sent.
Today’s race in Budapest had its on-track moments as well as a never-ending run of jokes and funny tweets.
This week we had accusations of amateur drivers taking to the track. I would definitely be classed as an amateur driver, but even I wouldn’t crash into another car – is there a course drivers can take in spatial awareness?
We also had IT issues down at Mercedes, causing all manner of concerned tweets to downright hilarious tweets. It appears they did try turning it off and on again, but to no avail, thankfully several alternatives were offered from carrier pigeons to smoke signals.
There seemed to be a problem in the pitlane with nuts and for once Daniil Kvyat was not the cause of a collision.
Did I say this was a dull race? Spoiler alert, it mostly was, but did have its moments.
Anyway, back to the job in hand. Handing out the final Funniest Tweet Awards before the F1 circus goes on its summer break (me included)
So, here goes:
In 10th place is @_HelenaHicks regarding Verstappen’s supposed response to hitting his team-mate and causing Daniel Ricciardo’s retirement from the race at turn 2 on lap 1.
9th place goes to @wtf1official following Kimi FM’s tirade about Paul di Resta and blue flags. Ouch!!
In 8th place is @MisterPigz on lap 67 Alonso, driving his Honda in 6th place lapping faster than Lewis Hamilton driving his Mercedes in (at the time) 3rd place. GP2 engine indeed!!
In 7th place is @TarasDemerson following several shots of pit crews tapping their feet. As @CroftyF1 noted “More foot tappers than a social at a folk club on a Friday night.” This strange ‘Christian Horner’ affliction is spreading down the pitlane.
Just outside the top five, in 6th place is @LastLapPodcast for this tweet about how Daniil Kvyat was feeling following the crash that led to Daniel Ricciardo’s retirement.
And here’s this week’s top 5. In 5th place is @stargateoracle after Bottas let Hamilton through to try to catch the Ferraris. He sped off like the proverbial torpedo.
4th place goes to @timwagner66 getting inside Daniel Ricciardo’s sub-conscious as he walks back to the pits following THAT crash at turn 2 on lap 1!
In 3rd place is @charlie_whiting sending help to Mercedes AMG after several attempts to rectify radio and IT issues failed.
This week’s runner-up is @MercedesAMGF1 themselves, laughing at their own problems. Laugh and the world laughs with you, right? This issue certainly was the cause of far too many funny tweets.
But this week’s clear winner, in 1st place is everyone’s favourite team Twitter account @RenaultSportF1 lamenting the pitlane’s problem with nuts this afternoon!
So there you have it, another 10 brilliantly funny tweets to round off the first half the Formula 1 2017 season, and the first half of this years 2017 Funniest Tweet Championships.
If you want to be in with a chance of making the top 10, scoring a few points and winning kudos and bragging rights, make sure you follow me on Twitter (@Pitlane_Girl).
The Funniest Tweet Awards will be back with a vengeance at Spa on Sunday 27 August.
Have a wonderful few weeks break and enjoy the sun. As for me, I’m off on my holidays tomorrow – best get packing!!!
