So. Italy. Where do we start?
We could talk about the washout that was qualifying yesterday, which saw some surprising results for provisional grid positions.
Or, Hamilton’s spectacular flying qualifying lap.
Or indeed the farce that is grid penalties which mixed up the grid to such an extent that even the flag bearing grid girls didn’t know where to stand!
But let’s not dwell on that, let’s move on to the race, which saw Lance Stroll become the youngest ever front row driver.
Aside from a few hair-raising moments and the *spoiler alert* inevitable retirements those 53 laps were a little tedious, but I had all your wonderful tweets to keep me entertained.
And there were some corkers this week, let me tell you, so I had a very difficult job whittling down the Top 10.
However, whittle them down I did, so here are this weeks Top 10 Funniest Tweet Awards for the Italian Grand Prix 2017:
In 10th place is @RenaultSportF1 commenting that Williams Racing seem to be upping their funny gif tweeting game, which, as we all know the champions of which are Renault!
In 9th place is @GvanderGarde for redesigning Honda’s logo for them following yet another disastrous race.
8th place goes to @F1fanboy2007 for designing Alonso’s new CD and adding an extra bonus track. Race fans will be pleased to know Alonso FM was in full swing during the race.
In 7th place is @RickyArdoF1 for, funnily enough, a tweet about a Honda failure. How unusual is that these days??
Just outside the top five in 6th place is @BadgerGP poking fun at Ferrari’s surprising lack of pace against Mercedes around Monza.
So, here we go with this week’s top 5. In 5th place is @TarasDemerson for his request to @MercedesAMGF1 to have one of the ninja turtles make an appearance at the US GP as an alternative to Donatella Versace, the well-known Italian female ninja turtle! Can you spot the difference though?
In 4th place is @Mark_Whitelegge for this tweet at the start of the race – it make me giggle – was the pink a reference to Ocon starting from 3rd and desperate to finish on the podium or just the fact it was the Italian Grand Prix? Answers on a postcard please.
3rd place goes to @TheOutsider_AMR as Daniel Ricciardo, aka ‘the honey badger’, decided to turn into the Trunchbull as he responded to his engineer’s information that Massa was up ahead and alone with the phrase: “I like ’em vulnerable!” – consider yourselves warned!!!
In 2nd place this week is a late entry from @WhenF1Was, which did make me giggle and remember when everyone watched the Eastenders Christmas Special. Following the retirement of both McLaren cars … again, will this be the scene at tomorrow’s meeting between Honda and McLaren?
However, this week’s worthy winner of the Italian Grand Prix Funniest Tweet, in 1st place is @F1archives for his ‘Fernando and the Engineers’ double LP album cover. I’d buy it!
Once again, some cracking entries and I really enjoy watching them all filter through my timeline during the race.
If you want to take part next race, all you have to do is follow me on Twitter, @Pitlane_Girl, or retweet a funny tweet but make sure you add @pitlane_girl to the retweet, so I see it.
The prize for winning is … absolutely nothing except kudos and bragging rights until the next race.
But I do run a championship throughout the season with each and every Top 5/10 winner receiving points like they do in the real race, which is fought for each and every bit as fiercely as the F1 WDC .
So, that wraps up the European F1 season, next up the night race in Singapore.
