Top 10 Funniest Tweet Awards – Singapore Grand Prix 2018

OK, so street circuits don’t usually provide the best races on the calendar, but sometimes they can throw the odd spanner into the works and give us some surprising results.

An easy Ferrari victory was being predicted, as this track favours their car much more so than the Mercedes. But, after a jaw-dropping blinder of a qualifying lap yesterday it was the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton that took home the spoils under the bright lights of Singapore.

There were definitely some thrills and spills this race. None more so than the antics of one Sergio Perez, which lit up my Twitter timeline so much I have made the decision to publish a separate Top 10 Funniest Perez Tweet Awards, for this race only.

Other surprises included Vettel finishing about half a minute behind the time of Hamilton and the best of the rest, another 30 seconds behind being led home by one Fernando Alonso. But perhaps the biggest surprise of the race was Kevin Magnussen getting the fastest lap and finishing in 18th!

Perez tweets aside, there were still a plethora of funny tweets to choose from. Soo without further ado, here are this week’s Top 10 Funniest Tweet Awards from the Singapore Grand Prix 2018:

In 10th place is @ChillerKiller22 for showing everyone’s reaction to the news of Kevin Magnussen setting the fastest lap of the race

9th place goes to @PatrickSikler for the first time eyebrow’s were raised as Alonso set the fastest lap, before being beaten, later on in the race by Magnussen

8th place goes to @Jontys_Corner as everyone got woken up as the second half of the race proved to be somewhat, rather exciting…

In 7th place is @benjhunt with a sneak peek into this weekend’s Ferrari strategy team in action. *spoiler alert* they pitted Vettel early, to try the undercut, and put him on purple tyres and expected him to complete the race on them. He did, but that’s probably why he ended the race 30 seconds behind Hamilton.

In 6th place is @HeyloLP translating the radio communication between Verstappen and the pit wall after he, and Hamilton, were held up by the racing battle between Grosjean and Sirotkin

5th place goes to @dibhayles for showing us the onboard camera replay of Ocon being punted into the wall on the first lap, which resulted in the deployment of the one and only safety car of the race

In 4th place is @timwagner66 for this tweet about the Force India first lap incident. Who remembers this film? I loved Clyde…

3rd place goes to @StephenCole1984 with this tweet about that wily old fox, Alonso, who always manages to grab some points…

2nd place goes to @JaitkenRacer with live footage of both Williams’ and Force India’s pit wall as Sirotkin and Perez battled each other on track … again!

And this week’s winner, in 1st place is everyone’s favourite team Twitter account @RenaultSportF1 for this tweet following Perez’s drive-through penalty announcement… the pitlane walk of shame, that just creased me up

And that concludes this week’s Top 10 Funniest Tweet Awards…

Oh, hang on! Wait a minute! I’ve got to do the Perez Top 10 Funniest Tweets.

Hold on to your hats folks, this isn’t over yet …. more laughs to come with the Top 10 Perez Funniest Tweet Awards
